Mrs. Zettie's Amazing Journey


ZETTIES PLACE isn’t just a name—it’s a tribute to a woman who embodied love, strength, and faith. Mrs. Zettie was born on October 10, 1922, the eldest of 15 siblings, in a time of great hardship. Yet, she never let her circumstances define her. From a young age, she became the cornerstone of her family, guiding and caring for her younger siblings with unwavering grace.

In the 1940s, Mrs. Zettie moved to Chicago, got married, and eventually returned to Mississippi, where she built a family of her own, raising 12 children. Her life’s work extended far beyond her role as a mother. She served her community as a dedicated Missionary for the Church of God in Christ (COGIC), bringing the gospel to life through her tireless service and faith.

But Mrs. Zettie’s mission didn’t stop at the church doors. She had her own FM radio show, where she sang hymns that lifted the spirits of countless listeners. Through her voice, she spread hope, faith, and joy, reaching people far and wide. Her life was a reflection of her deep belief that true wealth isn’t in material possessions but in the way we care for others and uplift our community.

As her grandchild, I had the privilege of spending summers in Lexington, Mississippi, helping her collect eggs from the chicken coop, slop the hogs, and feed the chickens. These weren’t just chores—they were lessons in humility, perseverance, and love. She showed me, through her actions, that the most important thing we can do is serve others with an open heart.

Zettie’s Place is a continuation of her life’s work. It is a place where love, faith, and care come together to create a community for low-income seniors.
